Tiempo España Dance Academy is Growing

When we set up our dance school in Yorkshire we had every intention to grow it as much as possible to be able to dance Cuban salsa again in a region that was completely dominated by cross-body salsa schools and events. Unfortunately, the interest for Cuban dances was sparse at first and it took a lot of stamina to get through the initial months where there were often just 1 or 2 people in our classes. While we fully expected that we would occasionally turn up at class with no-one being there, it was still not an easy exercise to deal with the costs of providing a service that sparked so little interest in this region at first.

Given we only set up our dance school 1.5 years ago it is the memory of how we started that makes us so happy of the way it has progressed. Some of the events we have been to recently have had more Tiempo España Dance Academy students than any other school and it is a pleasure to see how well everyone is being integrated and the etiquette our students have displayed when going out. Our Leeds classes are becoming busier than most Cuban salsa classes I have been to and despite the fact that it is still difficult to bring Cuban salsa to some of the smaller towns in Yorkshire we now have regular classes running in Selby, Hambleton, Carlton, Tadcaster, Leeds and York on a weekly basis as well as visiting more and more people in their own home to provide custom-tailored private classes.

Friday 31st of March will see our first Cuban salsa party in York where we will give our students the chance to practice their moves to Cuban salsa music starting with a Rueda class. We are very excited about our first event as it has been our goal from the start to provide regular Cuban salsa events in the region and it is wonderful to see that despite the initial difficulties we have now sparked enough interest in the area that this is possible.
It is not only our classes that experience increasing popularity but also our social media which are increasingly used as a resource for Cuban salsa around the world. More and more people are reading our blog and are watching our YouTube videos and we now have over 400 members on Meetup and close to 300 members on Facebook but it is not only the members that are increasing…

Over the last 2 months we have been working with some of our best students who agreed to teach for us and we are happy to announce that we presently have 6 people who are either already qualified or in teacher training to help out with some of our beginner classes in the future.
While we have received various applications from people who wanted to teach for us since we started our dance school, it has always been our aim to grow our school organically by hiring students who have been with us from level 1 all the way to level 7 such that the quality of our courses does not decrease as we expand to new areas. We are very happy to have such dedicated students who reached such a high level of Cuban salsa in the time they have spent with us that they are now ready to teach some of the beginner moves in our classes. It is through the hard work and dedication of the teachers helping us out that we can continue to offer regular classes around Yorkshire and keeping the level of cancellations to a minimum. Through the help of our new teachers we will be able to offer even more services in a wider area in the long run and we would like to thank all our new teachers for their hard work that is making this possible.

Please join us in welcoming all our new teachers who will be introduced on our blog, our website and our Facebook page in the coming months.
